Greek Health Authorities Announce 196 New Coronavirus Cases; One Death
Greece’s Public Health Organization, or EODY, announced today that there were 196 new coronavirus infections in Greece, just one day after the body had disclosed 126 new cases nationwide. It had been hoped that yesterday’s large decrease in the number of cases would represent a new, more positive trend.
Only twenty of these new cases today were detected as a result of checks at the border gates and entrance points of the country.
The total number of coronavirus infections in Greece is 5,942, including all this who have recovered. Of that total, just over half, or 54.9%, are male. Just over one quarter, or 1,503 cases, are considered to be related to foreign travel and 2,885, or 48.6%, are related to an already known case.
Twenty-six Greek citizens are currently being treated by intubation in ICU’s across the country. Their median age is 65 years, with only eight, or 30.8%, who are female.
Just over half of the total, or 53.8%, suffer from an underlying disease or are aged 70 and over. In addition, 130 patients have been successfully discharged from the ICU since the beginning of the pandemic.
The EODY reported one death in the country over the last 24 hours. There have been a total 214 deaths in total in the country. Just seventy-one, or 33.2%, were women. The median age of the Greek citizens who succumbed with the disease was 76 years and 95.8% suffered from an underlying disease and / or were age 70 years and over.
